And that's a wrap on January 2022! To celebrate the end of the first month–the TLP team has put together the January Spotlight to, well, spotlight, a few things that have kept us entertained!

#1: Song of the Month, Adele's 'Easy on Me'

There is no doubt that Adele is a household phenomenon. Her songs like, Hello, Hold On, One and Only, and countless others, have shot her to fame that few others have achieved and stolen hearts across the globe. The legendary singer's first single in six years, titled Easy on Me, in her latest comeback fails to disappoint! Coupled with Adele’s signature deep vocals, and heartbreaking lyrics, Easy on Me is truly an auditory masterpiece. The song has reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, with 54 million streams, 74,000 track downloads and 19,000 radio spins in the United States during its first full week out; no doubt a success! The song is said to be one of Adele’s most personal and vulnerable songs to date since she uncovers through its lyrics that she might've been the problem in all of her past failed relationships. As described by Annie Harrigan, “Easy On Me” exemplifies Adele’s growth as both an artist and a person. She is opening up to the listeners in a way that she has never before, letting them see her flaws and downfalls rather than showing those of her past lovers,” and we couldn't agree more!

#2: TV Show of the Month, She-Ra

Many think that Netflix's animated series She-Ra is a show made solely for a younger audience, but we're here to tell you that they couldn't be more wrong! This critically-acclaimed show attracts millions of viewers of all ages from around the globe and is being lavished in both praise and attention. The story follows Adora and Catra, two orphans who have been trained as soldiers in Hodak, as they battle a tyrannical ruler who dreams of conquering the planet’s army. The show has garnered undeniable attention over the past months and has quickly become a favourite–appealing to fans of the original She-Ra, and new fans alike. Audiences express that they have found an amazing new story to relish in and enjoy being a part of the incredible journey that unfolds in Hodak. She-Ra combines messages of hope, family, and friendship in a compelling storyline that weaves together elements of magic, adventure and humour in a beautifully designed package for us to enjoy–making it the perfect candidate for TLP's TV show of the month!

#3: Book of the Month, Heather Walter’s Malice

“Remember what I said, Alyce. About monsters.” The words are low, spoken in a tone that wakes something deep in my core. “Take care you don’t become what they think you are.”

― Heather Walter, Malice: Book One of the Malice Duology

Malice by Heather Walter follows the story of Alyce, a green-blooded Dark Grace, who possesses a different kind of power than others. A kind of power that makes her “evil”. As the twisted plotline unravels itself, she learns more about the secrets of her past and is met with a journey filled with lies, backstabbing, and love with a princess cursed with a power like her own. A dark retelling of the beloved “Sleeping Beauty” set in an intriguing, magical world–a fantasy novel like Malice cannot be missed!

#4: Movie of the Month, Encanto

In a (quite literally) magical family, it can get a little frustrating to be the only one without a gift. Don't believe us? Just ask young Mirabel Madrigal, she is quite the expert. However, when the magical force that sustains the power that gives the Madrigals their gifts begins to disappear–it is up to Mirabel to figure out how to fix it and help her family regain their powers. Disney is back with another colourful and lively musical. Illustrated by critics as a movie that is "thoroughly enjoyable, witty, intelligent, and robust in its multigenerational appeal," Encanto meets (and possibly exceeds) the standards set with a story filled with adventure, magic, and most importantly, family–Disney's recipe for success!
